SPONSORS
We are delighted to announce that S.P. Ausnet, Singapore Power have joined as naming rights sponsor for 2008. Our partnership will allow us to provide extra features to the Tour that have not been possible before.
SRAM continue providing Neutral Spare wheels for Men's and Women’s A grade, B grade Men, and Masters 1/2/3. Nestle companies Musashi and Powerbar have also joined us along with regulars Cyclepath Bright and North East Water. Of course the Tour of Bright would not be possible without the generous support of the Alpine Shire. Many others contribute sponsorship in one way or another, and we thank them. These people are recognised on our Web site and in our printed programs.
TIMING
Sport timing Australia have been contracted to provide Electronic, transponder timing for all competitors.. Riders will be RESPONSIBLE for handing back transponders to officials at completion of racing. For those of you who have separate Time Trial bikes you will need to transfer your transponder to that bike for the I.T.T. – NO TRANSPONDER – NO RESULTS. Time Trial starts will be at 20 seconds intervals, so be ready!. Start times will be listed early once gradings have been finished. If possible we will post start times on web site just prior to Tour weekend.
PRESENTATIONS
Presentations for both of Saturday’s stages will be at the Bright Brewery from as close as possible to 7.00pm on Saturday 6th December. We encourage all to join us as there will be some nice Spot Prizes to be handed out. Food including a Spit Roast, Pasta and Ice Cream as well as the Brewery’s Beers will be on sale. General classification as well as the Mount Hotham stage will be presented at the Brewery from approximately 2.30pm on Sunday 7th December. The Brewery is located on the Great Alpine Road, right in town.
SAFETY
Each year we advise competitors to ride in control, especially on the descents. Each year we seem to have a few crashes on Tawonga Gap from riders just going “TOO HARD”. Our bikes have great brakes and their use is permitted! A couple of seconds slower on he descent is better that crashing and losing minutes while you regain composure and get going again. Worse still you could end up needing a trip in the big white taxi. A suggestion for all competitors. WRITE AN EMERGENCY PHONE CONTACT NUMBER ON THE BACK OF YOUR RACE NUMBERS. IT CAN SAVE A LOT OF TIME SHOULD SOMETHING UNFORSEEN HAPPEN.
RESPECT
The areas raced in the “Tour of Bright” include National Parks, and we don’t want to see discarded energy supplement wrappers, etc. littering the roadside. It may seem messy putting used packaging in Jersey pockets, but it is heaps better than leaving rubbish for someone else to clean up. Likewise, chuck used bidons in cage at the start of feed zones., so that they can be brought back to the Clubrooms where you can reclaim them. We are proud of where we live and ride, and are striving to make this the Premier Cycling area in Australia.
STAGE THREE
SPECTATOR VEHICLES FOR THE MOUNT HOTHAM STAGE – must leave the start area in Bright prior to Race start. Passing various bunches is virtually impossible once riders reach Harrietville. Trying to do so puts a lot of lives at severe risk, Leave early, take a pleasant drive up the Mountain and enjoy the fantastic scenery. We ask that Spectators park their vehicles on the Mount Hotham Village side of the Finish and well away from our officials and Timing crew. Zirky’s at Hotham Village will be open for refreshments. Toilet facilities here and at Resort Management adjacent to car park. Competitors may place clothing in Lead car of their respective Grade. Lead cars will park at Mount Hotham Village after passing Race finish at “The Cross”, REMEMBER – we are in the Alps, and it can get very cold even during the Summer months.
